New hope for immigration reform
The Sept. 11 attacks have taken a huge toll on our economy, the most obvious being the changes they inspired in airline travel. But one of the most insidious effects has been the backlash of immigration policies that have deprived the innovation economy of fine minds from other countries. It's been especially foolish to stop encouraging foreign students graduating from U.S. universities to stay here to start their careers and businesses. (In Silicon Valley, as we well know, those starts can be simultaneous.)
